Bridgestone Indonesia – Bekasi Site

Project Summary
bioSEA initially conducted a desktop assessment of 12 Bridgestone Asia Pacific sites to broadly assess their biodiversity value, evaluating the impact of greenery and water bodies within site and in its surroundings on wildlife and humans. Each site was scored on their potential environmental, biodiversity, and social impacts. The Bekasi, Indonesia site gathered the highest total impact score and was selected for an on-site detailed assessment.
The bioSEA team visited Bridgestone Bekasi to conduct an on-site biodiversity and social assessment. The team carried out soil, water, and habitat assessments and employed various means to survey the flora and fauna diversity within and adjacent to the site. Interviews were also conducted with residents neighbouring the site to understand their
environmental values, concerns and aspirations pertaining to the Bridgestone Bekasi site.
With the findings of the field assessment, bioSEA presented an overview of the habitat and biodiversity on site, quantified the ecosystems services provided, and conducted a financial evaluation of key services such as pollination and carbon sequestration. Recommendations were also provided regarding biodiversity and habitat improvements, and efforts were made to align potential improvements with social concerns and aspirations.
