Sentosa Environmental Baseline Study, Singapore
Project Summary
Sentosa is an island resort off Singapore’s southern coast, connected to the city by road, cable car, pedestrian boardwalk and monorail. Although known for its theme parks and resorts, Sentosa has forests within the island that hold interesting flora and fauna.
Working hand in hand with Enviro Pro Green Innovations (EPGI), an Environmental Baseline Study (EBS) was called by Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) aiming to obtain information on biodiversity and habitat quality at Imbiah, Fort Siloso and Selugu in Sentosa to guide future actions; strategic land use planning, curation of conservation initiatives for the purposes of sustainable development and provide recommendations for the better management, maintenance, and enhancements of the green forest assets for biodiversity conservation.
bioSEA was engaged to conduct a study aimed to assess the presence and diversity of flora and fauna in the areas. Walking transects are implemented for fauna surveys with also sieve netting for beetles and light trapping for moths (at night). Night surveys are implemented for birds, mammals and reptiles. Songmeters and Camera traps are deployed in the areas to detect wildlife without disturbing them. Belt transects and vegetation habitat mapping are then implemented for plants.
